The history of the Buckle is a fascinating story.

I only learnt of the car about a year ago and I spent a fair bit of time browsing through your web site.

 Hi Bob,

An excellent webpage. I need to set aside some good time to browse through it.
Feel free to use the photos in anyway you wish. They have been hidden in a box for many years.
I am not looking for any recognition for them but happy for anyone interested to see them.

Hi, Just had a read of your website it's a beauty and I felt I should compliment you on it
I appreciate how much work you have put into it. Really enjoyed it.
Forgot what a good looking car the Buckle was.
A mate has just picked up a Mays head for his Sabre 6 so all this talk of  Zephyrs is all quite timely.

Hi Bob,

I spent a bit more time on the weekend going through your web site.
I can't believe how much info you have on the Buckles! It must have taken years to put this all together.
I saw the page on the prototype that is in Germany that Jeroen Booij had sent the photo of, and the link to the video, very cool.

I look forward to catching up with you soon.
Cheers

Mr Bob Williamson,
Thrilled to have found your site dedicated to the Buckle coupe.
As a boy I lived beside the Gnoo Blas track, near the beginning of the main straight opposite the water tower(s).  I loved the Buckle; it was so fast, and beautiful to my eye.  I remember the yellow one driven by Bill and the two-toned one; don't remember Jack Brabham guest-driving it though.  My memory has it that one of them showed a clean pair of heels to Tom Sulman's and Warren Blomfield's DB3's, but maybe it was the other way around.  Whatever, the Buckle was certainly fast.
I'm so pleased that all you people are keeping a legend alive.

Hello,
I thought you might like to see some photos I took of Bob Lumby at
Amaroo Short Circuit in 1972.
The car comes up as 93-888 on your register.
I know very little about his time with the car & only saw him running it
once, at this event, a NSSCC Club event, on 30th July 1972.
For interest his times were as follows:
49.74, 34.81, 34.14, 33.34 & 32.75 giving him equal 20th overall for the
day. The other car was a Cooper S.
Col Henry was fastest with 30.8 in the Henrymobile.
When I knew him, Bob was rally navigator for Brian Lidbury in a
Mitsubishi Colt, & competed in some of the major NSW rallies at the time.
I ran service car for them on several of those rallies.
I moved to Adelaide in 1973, so my contacts were lost.
I've been scanning my motor-sport negatives, & posting on the Autosport
nostalgia forum for a couple of years.
I hope you find them interesting.
By all means put them up on your web-site.
Cheers

Question:
Hi Bob
Forgot to tell you, about a month ago we followed a Buckle on the back of a truck,
it was heading south around Wyong.
Looked like fresh paint work although not an original colour,
it was a pretty blue/green colour.
We were so excited but could only toot & wave as we passed --
it even looked beautiful on a truck!!
Love for now................Viv  xx
Answer:
Viv hi
It was Bill Buckles newly restored Buckle.

Bob and Robyn hi,
Great to finally put a faces to names on the monitor and hear about your
experiences with that great car, the Buckle. Sadly I no longer have one
but still think of it nostalgicly. Oh well one can always remember the good
times enjoyed while it lasted.
Hope you got home safely and not troubled by your fall. It was the darkest night
I can remember since we came down here. There is usually a spill of light from the
town at least when there is no moon. Pam was sorry to miss you both, perhaps next time.
Had another look at the website-what a wonderful job you are doing there.
You might included TAMWORTH (site of yearly rounds of the State Hillclimb Championship)
and INVERELL in the list of hillclimbs Buckles challenged. A number competed at Tamworth
and I did at Inverell a number of times rather successfully.
Keep well and keep up the good work.

Hi Bob,
I found your website on Google very easy. It is a great website !!  lots of nice pictures and information.
The price for the scale model is ok. Is it possible to get it painted in the color by choice ?
I would like the two tone, gray white as on the front of the magazine Sports Car World.
I have a website myself about the Goggomobils I have.

Comment & Question:
Great shot! Who's the babe?
Can you find one for me. One of each, the Buckle Coupe and the babe!
Seriously, are any of these cars still available?
These cars are absolutely gorgeous, and I love the history and the background.
I can't wait to speak with you in person.
Looking forward to our visit.

Question: Hi Bob,
I saw your site while looking on 'Aussie Road Racing'.
Having done some racing over the last 50 years,
I have come across a few Buckle drivers,
eg. Mick Crampton, Warwick Holyoak, Bret Sowerby etc.
The thing that may be of interest to you goes back to
about 1956 [or maybe 1957?]. I was an apprentice panelbeater
at E.R.McNamara P/L, at Arncliffe at the time,
when a blue [turquoise?] Buckle coupe turned up for trimming.
The trimmers were Mick [forgotten his last name - Maloney?]
and Les Radford. I think it had a Raymond Mays head,
with 3 S.U.s. The car really caused a stir,
particularly with the younger lads.
When Bill came to pick the Buckle up, one of the braver apprentices
- Wally Flowers - asked him to 'show us how it goes'.
Bill did so, and laid a pair of black strips of rubber down on
Arncliffe St on his departure! We talked about that for ages,
and even brought mates there to show off the tyre marks. The good old days!
Cheers,
Greg Mackie NSW 6/7/11
Our reply to Greg Mackie:
Would have been 1957 we think. Below is BB's reply.
In 1956/57 there was only one turquoise Buckle and it was the car
I drove every day and my name was Bill,so I suppose I have to plead guilty !
I did the same thing with theR8 a few weeks ago along the wharf at a
marina cause somebody talked me into it.
I must give up this childish behavior !

Comment:  Hi Bob,
Great site, well done, a lot of work.
I still have great memories of 93 -900 at Orange with Charlie tuning the 3 SUs with the ( too rich ) black smoke billowing out of the exhaust.
Brabham driving the car in the race, and the trip home in 93 -900 with John Bissett ( John gave me a lift home) in the pouring rain and sheltering under the awning of the old service station at Blackheath.  Great days !!
I just loved, and still do love Buckles.

Comment:  G'day Bob.
Mate you have done a superb on the website and I applaude you for your effort....Just wonderfull.
Reading through the info that I was unaware of has been totally educational and now I am going to rack my brain to dig out info
that may be useful. I am particularly interested in the loss of the Webbers from the Polaris as at that time in 65/66 I used them at Oran Park and Warwick Farm.....They were on loan from Jack Allen.  Probably chucked in the bin by those who dont know.
I can tell you that the manifold was crafted by a professional. Thanks again for your effort .
Cheers .

Comment:  Hi Bob & Robyn
Congratulations on a job well done,  your many hours devoted to this site is evident.
We have enjoyed reading and learning more about the Buckles and will keep our eye out for more news.
Just to let you know we actually purchased our Buckle from "Cobber" (nickname) Morris' Used Cars.
Hope you are all well and we are sure that there would be many offering you their congratulations.

Comment:  Dear Robyn & Bob
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!
What a fabulous job you've done getting the website up & running -- it's really great. We've read every word & looked at every photo. It's amazing how many owners/previous owners have "B"  (for Buckle) in their names...just another bit of trivia! Loved the 'spiffy' bloke in the suit at the end!!!!
I'll put a bomb under 'the boss' for his article, I'm sorry he hasn't done it for you yet.
You must be feeling very proud of your efforts Bob & you should -- you're a champion........ you can go on long service leave now.
Thanks a million once again, we love it all.......
love Viv & Brian Lawler
